Story of

Ondřej G.B.

Ondřej Brzobohatý is the son of the legendary Czech actor Radoslav Brzobohatý and the Slovak actress Hana Gregorová. Music came to him easily as he was surrounded with it as a child.
At the age of five, Ondřej started taking violin lessons. He seemed to have discovered where his greatest talents were and subsequently graduated from the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory in Prague in a programme entitled “Composition, Piano and Conducting”.
During his studies at the conservatory he had been influenced by the sounds of black music and performers since childhood, as he would listen to his father’s records of Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder and Louis Armstrong.
One of Ondřej’s most significant discoveries was in fact getting to know Milan Kymlička, a composer who had spent most of his life overseas working for major film studios.

Current work of Ondřej Brzobohatý

In cooperation with the Na Jezerce Theatre in Prague, Ondřej wrote the music for the musical Já, Francois Villon (I, Francois Villon) in 2010. Three years later, he came up with a musical adaptation of Edmond Rostand’s world-famous play Cyrano de Bergera. Ondřej recently finished his most complete work to date – the musical Legenda jménem Holmes (The Legend Named Holmes). Here he was responsible for all – the music, lyrics and libretto.

Since his student years, Ondřej has been very successful in his composing of jingles and advertising music for TV and radio. He has been very fortunate to have had a number of great colleagues and great clients to work with and for in this field.

As an arranger, Ondřej had the opportunity to work on Michal Horáček’s musical Kudykam. Here he got to know the famous duo of the lyricist Horáček and songwriter Hapka and gained inspiration as well as valuable experience for further professional growth in this area.

Aged 19, Ondřej joined the band Bůhví, which worked through a number of different music styles including ethno. Probably, their most accomplished album is Hodina (The Hour).

After leaving his former band Bůhví, Ondřej has mainly devoted himself to composing stage music. He has also written and produced several songs, including songs for Dara Rolins, Hana Zagorová, Karel Gott, Helena Vondráčková and Ilona Csáková.
